Travel Bucket List Destinations

Planning a round the world trip route is challenging when you want to visit so many destinations, and you are also on a budget. Of course, I am very excited about exploring the places on my route, but they’re five places that are high on my travel bucket list to visit before I reach 50!

There is something magical about Istanbul, the mosques, culture, and the colourful markets like the Grand Bazaar. As you can tell from this travel bucket list, I love cities, the hustle and bustle, the smells and atmosphere. High on my list of things to do would be to walk around the historic areas of Istanbul, visit Suleymaniye Mosque and go shopping in the Sultanahmet District.

Bora Bora

What a dream it would be to wake up with views of the lagoon and palm trees. It would be a fantastic place to go exploring, with its extinct volcano, Mount Pahia and Mount Otemanu. Bora Bora is perfect for snorkelling with the marine life, touring the surrounding islands on a boat, and relax on the beach with a cold beer.

Japan fascinates me; what I love about Tokyo is its mix of old and new, the shrines, gardens and temples mixed in with the skyscrapers and bright neon lights. I would love to take a trip on the Shinkansen (Japanese bullet train) from Tokyo to Kyoto, climb Tokyo Sky Tree, with magnificent views across the city and wander around the Asakusa district which is home to temples, shops and restaurants.

Machu Picchu

I have dreamed of visiting Machu Picchu since I was a kid, more so, because back then I had an active imagination, and dreamed of finding gold in the hills. Nowadays, I’m not particularly fit, so for me it would be the trek of all treks, with the challenge of altitudes as high as 4200m. One of my life goals is to walk the 4-day route from Cusco to Machu Picchu for charity.

Beijing, with a population of 21.5 million people, is China’s second-largest city after Shanghai. Like Machu Puchu, walking across part of the Great Wall of China is something I have dreamt about. I am fascinated by Beijing, with the Forbidden City, Summer Palace and Temple of Heaven. Jingshan Park, and Tian’anmen Square are also popular tourist attractions that I would love to visit too.
